Did you want to own one of the fastest ocean racing coffee tables in the world?

Or a table that is a piece of yachting history?

Buy a table built from the mast of an ocean race record holder, Prodigy.

By using this mast to build furniture, we have prevented this carbon fibre from ending its life in landfill, while producing a gorgeous centrepiece for any home, yacht club or business.

Sustainable Sailing are thrilled to be selling the work of our long-time collaborators, Precision Yachting and Bunny Furniture.

Prodigy was the winner of the Cape Town to Rio race in 2011, breaking the course record. This Simonis-Voogd designed yacht was Durban based and was built to compete in the world’s premier sailing events.  Having broken the course record for the Cape Town to Rio race in 2011, the team went on to compete in a range of other offshore and ocean races such as the Fastnet. The boat sadly ended its life in the Medina Yard in Cowes, before being cut up and placed into landfill.

Currently there are limited, if any, methods of disposal for boats at their end of life, despite advances through developments such as the Sustainable Sails program. But, even if the hull ends its life in landfill, this collaborative solution for the spars helps extend the life of the composites, while reducing the carbon footprint of disposing the boat. Around 300 tonnes of carbon masts are built annually (Hecker et al., 2023). With carbon fibre producing between 20 kg Carbon dioxide equivalent to 50 kg Carbon dioxide equivalent for production alone, these masts represent an incredible carbon investment and upcycling is a major carbon saving.

Please note that items can be shipped internationally; however, shipping and fullfilment timescales will be arranged through contact with the seller
